Robomower and LawnBott are the two top robotic lawn mowers in the US.
Robomowers are made in Isreal by Friendly Robotics. Systems Trading Company is the US distributor for the Robomower. The LawnBott is made in Itlay by Zuchetti. Kyodo America is the US Distributor for the LawnBott robotic lawn mowers to the US.
Because LawnBott robotic lawn mowers can handle a large variety of lawn sizes and slope grades, some yards may simply require a LawnBott. But with lawn requirements aside, we decided to compare the two brands. Below is a broad representation of LawnBott models vs Robomower models.
LawnBott and Robomower Similarities
- Both LawnBott and Robomower will cost less than a riding lawn mower and a lawn service in the long term
- Both LawnBott and Robomower will be better for your lawn if you mow frequently
- Both LawnBott and Robomower have 2-year warranties
- Both LawnBott and Robomowers mow the lawn very well and the end result is impressive
- Both LawnBott and Robomowers are rain resistant
- Both LawnBott and Robomowers are green lawn mowers (environmentally friendly)
- Both LawnBott and Robomowers are electric lawn mowers
Robomower Advantages:
- Can mow less frequently (mulches higher grass better)
- Initial cost for usually less (but pegs cost 4x as much as LawnBott pegs; however, Robomower wire is cheaper than LawnBott wire)
- Variety of price ranges from various drop ship dealers
- Used parts and mowers are more available
- Larger range of mowing heights (1” – 3.25” w/ two different blade types)
- No tools are required to adjust blade height
- Better manual control via wired controller
- Brand recognition - widely known and been around a few years longer than LawnBott
Robomower Disadvantages:
- For smaller lawns only (1/3rd acre max suggested, RL1000)
- Require zones to be divided to than 5,500 sq ft each in order to minimize missed spots (RL series)
- 21 – 24 hours to recharge (manual fast charger optional)
- Gear cases are known to fail after 1 to 3 years of usage
- Lead acid batteries (Will likely need to be replaced every year for bigger lawns: cost $249 to replace)
- User servicing will void warranty and special tools maybe required
- Heavier and larger (about the size of a push lawn mower without the handle; weighs 85 lbs with battery)
- Not CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) accepted
- Firmware updates require chip replacement & special tool
- Long term overall cost higher than LawnBott LB2100 / LB2150
- Mowing deck can press longer grass down instead of mow it
- Slope limitation of 15 degrees
- New replacement parts and servicing dealers are very limited in number
LawnBott Advantages:
- Long term & overall cost less than Robomower (LB2110 and LB2150)
- Smaller and light weight units (weigh 18 lbs – 40 lbs)
- Lithium Batteries available (Will likely need to be replaced every 4 – 5 years; cost $325)
- Lead acid batteries cost over $100 less to replace than Robomower lead acid batteries
- Fast recharge times: 2.5 – 3.5 hours (both lead and lithium)
- Can mow twice a day due to quick recharge times (Hence cover more area)
- More flexible wheel options
- More upgradeable
- User serviceable & easy to self-repair
- Parts can be bought from many sources
- CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) accepted
- Firmware updateable via internet for free (optional cable required)
- Can handle steeper slopes (when using lithium batteries up to 30 degrees)
LawnBott Disadvantages
- Initial cost higher (except for LB2110 & LB1200 Spyder)
- Doesn’t mulch high grass as well as Robomower
- Lower mowing heights LB2110 (0.75” – 2.5”), LB3500: 2.75” & LB1200 Spyder: 3.5”
- Repair parts generally cost more
- LawnBott LB3500 has "new model" bugs
So what do we think? Both robotic lawn mowers are great and are the best robotic lawn mower options available today. However, we think LawnBott yields the more bang for the buck. The LawnBott is more compatible with a wider variety of lawns and can be upgraded if you were to move. You are on a LawnBott website, so what did you expect?
